Fantasy Island season 2 episode 5 Recap
In a flashback, we see young Elena on her first day at work. Elena seeks guidance from her uncle's temple and selects a white suit from her wardrobe.
Segundo presents Elena with a red hibiscus flower and turns to see her wearing blue. He gives her a flower for good luck in her new job, which she gratefully accepts, even though she says she feels uncertain. Segundo then takes her to the dock where she is expected to meet her first guests.
Elena arrives at the dock, still looking nervous as her first guest gets off the plane. Sevinj admits that his lifelong dream was to build an empire to improve the world, but his aspirations were thwarted by marriage, three children, and eventual divorce.
Now, with grown children, he realizes that it is too late to build an empire, but his fantasy is to regain his lost happiness. He wants to find permanent personal satisfaction. Before retiring to her room, Joy comments on Elena's lack of familiarity with the island, and Elena admits that it's her first time visiting. Joy assures him that he is fully confident in his abilities.
Back in the day, Joe's three grown children, Bridget, Ross, and Frank, are waiting while Elena and Ruby bring the bowl.
Joy, Ross and Bridget have built a multi-million dollar business over the past ten years that they now plan to sell. But Joy's last wish was for her three children to scatter her ashes together. On the beach, while trying to make Joy's wish come true, Ross and Frank argue and the urn won't be opened until they show mutual love and respect. Meanwhile, Ruby and Isla are in bed together and Ruby wants to get to know Isla better, but Isla is hesitant.
In another flashback, Joy and Elena talk about having trouble sleeping and planning to make Joy truffles. Back in the present, the siblings are still arguing and Elena puts them on hiatus, causing them to end up in their childhood lounge, where she finds a VHS tape of Joy reminding them to stick together.
In the basement, Ross continues to annoy Bridge by calling her "Nikki", leading to an argument between the siblings, which results in Elena appearing on TV and the basement floor turning into lava.
Ruby tells Javier about her concerns about Isla, and Javier realizes that Elena doesn't know about Isla. As for Javier himself, he is busy repairing the plane's fuel pump after it crashes into the water. Three brothers tried to steal it to get away from the island.
In another flashback, Elena and Joy walk through the portal door together, where they encounter a fork in the road. Joy prefers to follow the path with the basket.
Joy walks through the forest, collecting random pieces of clothing and trash along the way, and finally reaches Elena at the end of the road. Elena encourages Joy to try the machete route.
In the lava basement, the brothers work together and escape using the Summers-sault move. Joy crosses the river and reaches a cocoa plantation, which she uses to split the pod with a machete. Ross apologizes for leaving Joy's care in her final days to Bridge and Frank, and the siblings emerge from the trees to find the container holding Elena in the cacao grove. Past Joy and Elena watch the present-day siblings explore the forest, inspiring Joy to build an empire with Elena's help.
Ross discovers that the main ingredient in his mother's truffles are cocoa beans from the island. As a fitting tribute, Frank suggests spreading Joe's ashes over the cacao grove. Together, the brothers put their hands on the bowl and scatter the ashes. Before leaving, the siblings agree to continue the business and deal with Elena as their mother. Meanwhile, Ruby and Isla have a romantic date on the beach.
In the final flashback, Elena says goodbye to Joy and tries the truffles made from island cacao and considers them a success.
Episode Review
Ruby needs to learn more about Isla before she falls completely in love. I don't think Isla could hurt her, but I honestly doubt she's a mermaid. He is always on the beach and appears once in a while.
Javier and Elena are doing well, I wonder where Helen is? We didn't get to see him in this episode, I hope they show up in the future!
