Fantasy Island season 2 episode 1 Recap
Their guests this week are Nora, Judy and Marsha, a trio of old friends from Minnesota who have been friends for over half a century. They came to the island to look for their fourth missing friend.
As Ruby helps them settle in, Javier informs Elena of a change in plans and that he needs to take Elena to the mainland for a shopping trip, which Ruby seems a little jealous of.
Three friends from Minnesota tell Elena and Ruby about their missing friend from the 80s, Rosemary, and their group nickname, the Frightful Four. They aim to uncover what happened to him.
Their journey of discovery begins by transporting them to Miami in the 1980s. They quickly change into period clothing, locate their car, and find a map with a predetermined destination waiting for them. They went on their quest.
Ruby is sitting alone when Elena runs into her, and Ruby asks if she could ever leave the island like Helene. Elena confirms that if Ruby had left the island, she would have died the same way if she had gone with Mel after visiting it.
The three friends arrive at the location on the map and see a condo with a gardenia in front of it. Determined to find Rosemary, Nora steps forward and knocks on the door. A man in a pink lounge suit reading a newspaper watches them approach. When they reach the door, they find that it has been forced open and there are blood stains and a broken vase inside.
Elena takes Ruby to the portal for the guests' fantasies, where she learns that the fantasies escape from being trapped on the island. Ruby joins a group of revelers and has fun.
While investigating the condo, the women discover that Rosemarie is involved in a real estate scam. Marsha sees a man in pink walking around their car and realizes he has a gun. When she tried to alert the others, they had already redialed Rosemary's phone and discovered she had been in contact with Marsha in the 80s.
Marsha quickly brings the man in pink to their attention, distracting them from the phone conversation. They try to sneak past him in the lobby, but he spots them and chases them. The women quickly get into their cars and try to escape, with a man in pink close behind.
Nora and Judy press Marsha for answers about the phone call. Marsha explains, but they are displeased. Nora accuses Marsha of being overbearing and failing to set boundaries with her adult children, who still live with her, while Judy criticizes her for leading a boring life. Judy responds and tells Nora that she has no control over her life.
Elena finds Segundo drinking wine alone. She observes that she is opening up to people like Javier and Ruby and experiencing changes. When they are both away, she feels lonely for the first time in a while.
Back in the fantasy, the trio continue to bicker until they arrive at Ruby's dance party. Ruby tries to mediate their disagreement. Suddenly, he thinks about being in Miami in 1985 and rushes off, instructing them to stay together.
But as soon as they hit the dance floor, many people separate them from each other. They each spot Rosemary in the crowd and then follow her out the door. One by one they enter her kitchen, where she offers them her favorite pastries and ensaimadas and mentions that she is waiting for them.
Judy hugs Rosemary and questions her disappearance. She accuses him of neglecting his duties and presents him with a plate. Rosemary breaks the plate and tells Judy that she needs it to release her anger and frustration over her husband's death.
Marsha regrets not being there for Rosemarie when she needed him. Rosemary reassures him that he is innocent and that he should let go of his guilt and set boundaries with his growing children.
Nora shares with Rosemarie that she feels dull and unremarkable compared to Rosemarie's exciting lifestyle. Rosemarie asks if she's just bored, and Nora admits that Rosemarie's disappearance was the most exciting thing in her life.
Judy works through her emotions by breaking plates and reflects on Rosemary's past relationship with a man named Bill. Rosemary reminds Nora of the ensaimadas she introduced her to and tells Marsha about a Filipino bakery she frequented in Minnesota. As the conversation ends, Rosemarie reveals that she has to go and that "he" is looking for her. The trio suddenly find themselves in a hotel room, where Elena discusses their discoveries.
Nora leads the group to form a board of evidence to solve Rosemary's mystery. Meanwhile, Ruby's friend asks what she's expecting, and she mentions Isla and Prince's surprise performance. Just then the Prince enters the room.
When Nora returns to her room with the supplies, she is confronted by a man dressed in pink. He quickly enters the room and closes the door. The man follows, reaching for his coat. But before he can do anything, Judy hits him on the head with a bottle and falls. Despite the attack, he doesn't lose consciousness and pulls out his FBI ID.
He reveals that Rosemarie is after her ex-boyfriend, Bill. Nora pleads with him to cut the deal, promising to help catch Bill and stop him from escaping. However, the man points out that Rosemarie is still on the run and he can't make any deals until she's caught. Nora has an idea where they can find Rosemary.
Meanwhile, Segundo meets with Elena to find out about Ruby's visit. Elena shares her breakup with Javier, and Segundo advises her to be honest with Javier about her feelings.
The next morning, Elena returns home and picks up Ruby, who is excited to meet Isla. The trio then head out to find the best baker in Miami and ask if they've seen Rosemary. Despite the baker's refusal, they leave an envelope for Rosemary to return.
On the island, the women are brought back to Elena and protest that they don't know what happened to Rosemarie. However, an older Rosemary appears and thanks them for the message they left for her.
Ruby is walking along the beach looking for Isla and calling her name. When Isla finally appears, Ruby kisses her and tells her that she had a real human connection during her trip to Miami and that if she's going to spend the rest of her days on Fantasy Island, she wants more in her life. They share another kiss.
A group of four friends gather to learn about their lives. Elena informs them that they have plenty of time to talk as they have been invited to spend the rest of the week on the Island. Rosemarie shares that she changed her identity after testifying against Bill at his trial and later became a physical therapist and married and raised a family, including grandchildren.
Marsha invites Rosemarie to stay with her in Minnesota, so she'll have plenty of room when she forces her children to move. Nora mentions that she started a dinner business with a crime mystery. Meanwhile, Judy invites the group to a memorial service for Hank.
Organized an island tour for women with Elena Segundo as the guide. Missing meeting his peers, Segundo is eager to show them around.
He admits that he misses her and asks if it's okay if he starts getting to know Helen too. Javier happily agrees.
Episode Review
Given that Javier also needed to connect with Helene, it was inevitable that Javier and Elena would feel distant at some point. Segundo gave her the right advice, she and Javier have a great relationship but they need to communicate more.
I enjoy seeing Ruby with Isla, but who is Isla? I think he's hiding something and I hope we find out soon.
