Bungo Stray Dogs season 4 episode 7 'Dog Hunters' begins with Taneda falling to the ground and Ranpo holding a knife as CCTV records him. He realizes that the reality-altering page will be used to alter the CCTV footage and make it look like he stabbed Taneda.
As the rest of the gang open fire on Gogol's hideout, the police surround him. Yosano pushes Kunikida out the window but is shot in the shoulder. Tanizaki hides them and they meet up with Kenji, while Ranpo tells them on the call that Taneda escaped after stopping his bleeding wound. The chief can vouch for them, but Ranpo isn't sure if he'll heal him.
He points out that the page is very powerful because it can alter memories. Kyoka confirms that she now has the memory of stealing and killing the hostages. Just then, someone shoots Ranpo and he falls through the window. The call is cut and the Agency thinks he's dead.
Meanwhile, the police surrounded them and threw gas grenades into the room. They go inside and see that everyone is dead except for one person - Yosano. It turns out to be a trap and he uses his You Must Not Die ability to revive other dead detectives and they attack the soldiers. They leave the radio to call for help and escape.
At that moment, a rocket lands in front of the military tent and the man who imprisoned Oda in the Detective Agency Origin Ark comes out. Named Ochi Fukuchi, he gives an ambiguous response that an officer shot at him. However, the bullet is blocked by the blind Hound Jono. A military police lieutenant realizes that these two are in the reserves and part of the Hounds, a powerful branch of their military force.
The rest of the team appears, with Teruko making a chaotic entrance. It turned out that the elite team consists of 5 people and Fukuchi is the leader. Tetcho is a warrior who can manipulate his sword, while Teruko can change anyone's age. The lieutenant also tells the investigators that the 5th member is an enigma and is involved in secret affairs.
Meanwhile, Fukuzawa is arrested. The detectives escape Gogol's hideout, and Kunikida is pessimistic about his chances. Kenji says they should rebuild the Agency, and the others agree. As the hounds try to corner them, we see them strategize to steal a car and escape. Fukuchi and Teruko take the trains north, and Jono and Tetcho take the south track.
The South team jokes all the way because they can't get along, but Jono locates the detectives based on the frequency of their car. As Yosano tells them about the shelter, Jono appears inside the car. Kyoka is missing as Kenji jumps out of the car. Tanizaki jumps in and tries to save her, but Jono reveals that he has a plan to separate them. Kunikida drives the car over him before Tetcho kills the two.
We finally see Atsushi with his leg stuck in the basement as the military police find him. He thinks they are there to help and is shocked when they point their guns at him. They open fire, but Kyoka saves him. They ran away while telling him about Gogol's plan.
Meanwhile, Kunikida escapes with Kenji and Tanizaki, while Jono confronts Tetcho. The enraged swordsman uses his skill to split the car in two and stab Kenji and Kunikida. He even cuts Kunikida's notebook. Before he kills Yosano, Kunikida confronts him and surrenders. However, Tetcho still attacks, but before his sword can reach Yosano, it is deflected. Chuuya suddenly appears in a helicopter and informs them that they have been ordered to help.
Episode Review
Well, if a reality-altering page can also alter memories, that's a scary power. It also frustrates our heroes all the more, as their jumbled memories may very well prevent them from uncovering the truth.
Bungo Stray Dogs Season 4 continues to get darker and darker as this season's villains are even worse than the previous ones with their relentless attacks.
Thankfully, our anime's season 1 villain turned lovable character, Chuuya from Port Mafia, showed up just in time to save the day. Now all we need is for Akutagawa to save Atsushi and continue their strange friendship from last season and all will be well in the world. However, we miss our eclectic Dazai and hope that he once again does something outside the box and trumps the antagonists.
